Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Westfield
Dr. Alexis Jemal serves as Co–Vice President of the Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Westfield, a nonprofit that preserves and uplifts the legacy of Dr. King through community celebration, youth engagement, and interfaith dialogue. As a scholar-activist and community leader, Dr. Jemal supports initiatives that align with her Soulcial Work Praxis (SWP) philosophy—integrating radical imagination and justice-centered action. Under her leadership, the Association has hosted healing-centered educational programming such as art and essay contests, book discussions in collaboration with the Westfield Library, and Black History events that promote reflection, unity, and social change. Her work builds on the mission of BPC (The Briar Patch Collaboratory), serving to cultivate spaces of refuge, equity, and collective empowerment.
The Westfield Human Relations Advisory Commission
Dr. Jemal founded the HRAC to address systemic inequity, build bridges across difference, and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging in the Town of Westfield. As Chair, she led the development of community-driven educational initiatives and healing dialogues that reflect the transformative principles of Soulcial Work Praxis—raising critical consciousness, disrupting harm, and imagining more just futures. Now serving as Commissioner, she continues to support initiatives that confront racism, promote diversity, and uplift marginalized voices. Her leadership reflects a commitment to eradicating the “-isms” and building collaborative, humanity-affirming spaces where healing and justice are both process and outcome.
